Chicago Students Raise $10,000 for AIDS Research with Annual AIDS Benefit on Sept. 23 & 24

The superstar students of The Chicago Academy for the Arts prepare to sing, dance and more in support of HIV/AIDS research

CHICAGO - September 21, 2022 - For the past 26 years, The Chicago Academy for the Arts (The Academy), Chicago’s premier performing and visual arts high school, has allowed its students to take center stage for a good cause. That tradition continues this weekend as The Academy hosts its annual AIDS Benefit with a goal of raising $10,000 for The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. The two-night affair will take place at The Academy (1010 W. Chicago Avenue) on Friday, September 23 at 7pm and Saturday, September 24 at 3pm and 7pm.

Originally founded in 1997 by Academy alum and hit songwriter Justin Tranter (the talent behind hits like Justin Bieber’s Sorry and Fall Out Boy’s Centuries), the AIDS Benefit has raised nearly $200,000 in support of HIV/AIDS research. The student-run variety show features original performances by students from each department - theatre, music, dance and more - all directed and curated by student leadership. This year's benefit is organized by Mia Peterson, a senior in the dance department.

Tickets to the Friday and Saturday night performances are already sold out, but tickets are still available for the Saturday afternoon show at 3pm.

Supporters are invited to donate here to help The Academy and its students meet their $10,000 goal.
